The Citizen

Designed to elevate connection and honor place, The Citizen brings modern form and civic spirit to the heart of downtown Oklahoma City.
Positioned on a prominent site overlooking the Oklahoma City National Memorial, the building was elevated to create a landscaped area beneath it – providing a unique threshold between the building and the memorial and inviting interaction with the surrounding open space.
Wallace Design Collective provided structural engineering, civil engineering and land surveying services for the 12-story, 160,000 square foot commercial building. In addition to office space, The Citizen includes ground-level areas for retail, restaurants and hospitality uses. The building’s design drew inspiration from nearby 1930s architecture, incorporating abstracted elements of historic facades, paired window arrangements and a strong vertical rhythm. Large, flexible openings throughout the structure support current programming while allowing for future adaptability.
Wallace’s civil team reconfigured public and private utility systems to serve the site. This included rerouting existing domestic services to connect with a large existing water meter vault and designing new fire protection services within tight alignment corridors adjacent to both new and existing mains.
