Expanding access to specialized rehabilitative care for patients navigating recovery from serious illness and injury.

Purposefully designed to support healing, movement and dignity, the facility reflects a patient-centered approach to rehabilitation – one that emphasizes both physical recovery and quality of life.

Wallace Design Collective provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the new 48,000 square foot, 40-bed rehabilitation hospital, developed through a partnership between Ascension St. John and Encompass Health. The campus is thoughtfully organized to support a wide range of therapies and clinical functions, while also creating welcoming outdoor and arrival spaces for patients, families and caregivers.

The facility includes a therapy gym, daily living suites, dining and cafeteria spaces, a pharmacy and a landscaped courtyard designed to encourage movement, rest and connection to the outdoors. Site circulation, grading, drainage and landscape elements were coordinated to support accessibility, safety and long-term resilience while reinforcing a calm, healing environment.
