A reinvestment in Atlanta’s skyline is transforming Bank of America Plaza into vibrant public spaces and a renewed city icon.

Completed in 1992 as the headquarters for C&S Bank, the 1,023-foot Bank of America Plaza stands as the tallest building in the Southeast and a defining feature of the Atlanta skyline. Located at the seam between Midtown and Downtown, the gold leaf–capped tower has long served as a symbol of the city’s entrepreneurial energy and forward momentum.

To reestablish the tower’s presence as a premier business destination and elevate the tenant experience, owner-operator CP Group assembled a team led by Gensler and Holder Construction to reimagine the building’s public spaces. Wallace Design Collective is providing structural engineering services for the renovation, which focuses on transforming the tower’s ground-level environment into a contemporary, hospitality-infused arrival experience.

The redesign introduces a renewed identity for the tower – “The South Star” – signaling a new era for the landmark. The renovation centers on a 20,000 square foot lobby envisioned as a vibrant and welcoming hub, complete with a coffee bar, art gallery and high-end amenities. The updated plaza and lobby reconnect the building to the pedestrian experience, extending the tower’s iconic “golden glow” to the streetscape. The interior design respects the tower’s original Art Deco influence while introducing refined materials, including Italian marble flooring, warm metal-paneled 40-foot curved ceilings and thoughtfully layered lighting reminiscent of boutique hotel environments. Open sightlines, sophisticated furnishings, and elevated finishes work together to create a warm, modern atmosphere that aligns with the evolving expectations of today’s workplace.
