Oklahoma City Zoo Expedition Africa

Expedition Africa is the Oklahoma City Zoo’s largest habitat expansion since its founding in 1902, spanning 14 acres and showcasing more than 60 species.
This immersive African-themed exhibit allows visitors to explore a dynamic environment with interactive experiences and up-close encounters with animals, including giraffes, lemurs, wildebeest and many others.
Wallace Design Collective provided civil engineering, structural engineering and landscape architecture services for this transformational project. The exhibit offers expanded, naturalistic habitats for giraffe, eland, okapi, ostrich, painted dog, cheetah, red river hog, lemur and more. A new state-of-the-art giraffe barn features indoor viewing areas, providing guests with year-round opportunities to observe these iconic animals.
A historic pachyderm habitat building, an architectural treasure at the Zoo, was repurposed into a multipurpose event space, a small animal habitat and a children’s play area – all overlooking the expansive savanna. Wherever possible, existing site features, grading and mature trees were preserved and integrated into the design, reinforcing the Zoo’s commitment to sustainability and conservation.
