The Emergency Department at Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center plays a critical role in delivering lifesaving care to one of Georgia’s busiest and fastest-growing communities.

Wellstar Health System is one of Georgia’s largest and most integrated healthcare providers, recognized nationally for its commitment to innovation, quality and patient-centered care. With a network of hospitals, urgent care centers and specialized practices, Wellstar delivers comprehensive services to millions of patients each year.

The 263,000 square foot expansion enhances emergency services for one of the nation’s largest and most advanced trauma centers. The second floor houses a 12-bed behavioral health emergency department with eight adult and four pediatric private rooms, organized into separate pods to create safe, age-appropriate environments. Outfitted with anti-ligature features, dayroom spaces, shower facilities and a secure intake area, the unit is designed for both safety and comfort. An adjacent six-bed emergency unit provides flexibility to scale operations based on community demand.

On the first floor, a 12-bed trauma pod includes five large trauma rooms and seven resuscitation bays, all with direct ambulance access. The pediatric emergency department features two high-acuity rooms with its own ambulance entrance, along with four additional high-acuity rooms located on the second floor.

KSi Structural Engineers, now part of Wallace Design Collective, provided structural engineering services for the expansion of Wellstar Kennestone’s Emergency Department. As one of the largest and busiest Level II Trauma Centers in the country, the facility is designed to treat more than 220,000 patients annually with a team of over 120 healthcare professionals.

Additional features include a rooftop helipad and covered ambulance parking for up to 14 vehicles, providing rapid access and response for the most critical patients.
