College of Science and Mathematics
Augusta University

Placing the College of Science and Mathematics building on the Health Sciences Campus allows for the expansion of science and mathematics programs and the growth of other colleges. This location offers undergraduate students the chance to engage with “white coats” and collaborate with graduate students pursuing diverse healthcare professions. Moreover, faculty researchers will gain advantages from interdisciplinary exchanges and partnerships with colleagues on the Health Sciences Campus. This development further supports Augusta University’s progress in becoming a comprehensive research university with Carnegie R1 status.

KSi Structural Engineers (now part of Wallace Design Collective) provided structural engineering services for the new 126,000 square foot Math and Science Building. The project contains four floors with one floor of the building shelled for future build-out as research space. The program spaces are utilized by all departments within the college and includes 26 learning labs, each designed to accommodate 24 students.

The modular design allows labs to function across disciplines as academic programs shift to adapt and support long-term needs. Research labs are organized in an open lab environment with space to accommodate up to 25 principle investigators. To create a true learning and research center, the program includes individual and group study spaces distributed across the building. The building also provides faculty offices and support areas for direct access to labs and students.
