Fire Damage Assessment

Wallace Design Collective provided a thorough assessment of a Big Box retailer’s building’s condition post-fire damage, helping property owners and authorities understand the extent of the damage and the necessary steps for recovery and reconstruction. This site was an active crime scene several days after the fire so Wallace Design Collective had to coordinate all activities with law enforcement. After assessing the damage (that destroyed about 60,000 sf of a 212,000 sf building), Wallace designed shoring and bracing so most of the original structure could be repaired while the severely damaged portions of the structure were removed and replaced. In this case, the building was also braced so that a temporary firewall could be installed to separate the damaged building from usable portions of the building so that the undamaged structure could reopen for business by the holidays in what was called a soft. The structural repairs and bracing were completed for the soft open approximately six weeks after the fire. All structural repairs and replacement construction were completed in a manner that allowed architectural work to begin in the severely damaged areas about 10 weeks after the fire.
