Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa Hardesty Service Center
Meals on Wheels Metro Tulsa is an organization dedicated to providing nutritious meals, wellness checks and caring contact to the elderly, disabled homebound and other residents in Tulsa and surrounding areas. For many seniors in our community, Meals on Wheels is the difference between remaining in their own homes and needing to relocate to a nursing facility. The nutritious meal, wellness check, and caring contact help them cope with three of the biggest threats of aging: hunger, isolation, and loss of independence.
The new 24,000 square foot facility helps accommodate the growing need for their services brought on by the lasting impact of the pandemic. The state-of-the-art facility, named the Hardesty Service Center, features a large commercial kitchen with specialized coolers, more storage to house dry-stock goods alongside more space to accommodate growing staff. The new kitchen includes an 800-square-foot walk-in freezer next to an equally large walk-in refrigerator. Multiple ovens can cook 50 pounds of meat at a time while the kitchen staff will use 80-gallon kettles, 40-gallon skillets and shoulder-high stand mixers. The new building also features several large classrooms for training new volunteers.
