Happy new year, everyone! As we look forward to the start of a new year – and a new decade! – it’s a great time to celebrate Wallace Engineering’s highlights from 2019.

Early in the year, I talked to our company about the need to become a healthier organization to make sure everyone is rowing in the same direction. A healthy organization is defined by five traits:

It has trust. People are vulnerable with each other and believe in good intentions first.

  • It masters conflict. Difficult topics are discussed, debated and resolved.
  • It achieves commitment. By reinforcing clarity and closure, issues unite rather than divide.
  • It embraces accountability. We hold each other responsible to do what we say we’ll do.
  • It focuses on results. We believe that individual successes should contribute to the overall good.

Our core purpose is to make lives better.  We not only did this through the buildings and sites we designed and developed, but also through the jobs and benefits we provided to all our employees. New benefits in 2019 included employee maternity and paternity leave (which was used numerous times!) as well as a new defined contribution insurance plan, where employees are given a defined monetary amount and they get to select insurance coverage based on personal/family insurance needs (which was also very well received). Our employees also made lives better by being active in our profession and by volunteering and giving back to the profession and the community as a whole. Our core values of responsiveness, flexibility, quality and creativity were reinforced throughout the year and there were countless examples of these values being lived out.

Wallace also received a great deal of recognition in 2019. Zweig ranked us the 7th-best firm among all architectural, engineering and construction firms with 100-199 employees, and as the 9th-best structural engineering firm regardless of size. Building Design & Construction’s Giants 300 Report ranked Wallace as the 50th-largest engineering firm in the country and as the 12th-largest retail engineering firm.  The Journal Record named Wallace as the “Best Engineering Firm in Oklahoma” and the 9th-best place to work in Oklahoma regardless of industry.

Our rallying cry going into 2020 continues to be to take this firm to the next level. We look forward to another outstanding year and we thank you for your continued support!

– Tom
